The Low Down on Korean Spas

Going out for a spa day is always a fantastic experience; it’s as relaxing as it is rejuvenating and invigorating, because it infuses your body with a fresh energy to tackle whatever life problems may be in your way and giving you a headache. Not to mention, it’s really good for your skin and overall health because it relaxes your body and eases tension, lowering stress levels for an overall healthier you.

That said, there’s one type of spa in particular that you might want to keep your eye out for that’s been growing in popularity recently, and that is the korean spa. Korean spas have a certain atmosphere and style to them, and tend to offer a specific type of experience that’s utterly relaxing and refreshing, like a spa should be. If you’re not already excited, Vine Vera is here to tell you exactly why you should be itching to go to a korean spa as soon as you can.

What is a Korean Spa?
Korean spas vary quite a bit, but they tend to be based on common models of a culturally traditional public bath, called a jjim-jil bang. They range from elaborate to simple, but they tend to have several different areas for relaxation that you can move between as you like, including various different types of saunas, whirlpools, a unique full-body scrub that’s incredibly rigorous and will leave your skin as soft as a baby’s, and even a lounge with a TV. Most also have a host of tasty Korean food for sale, so you can fill up in between the saunas, scrubs, and baths, and feel utterly satisfied.

What You Should Know Before You Go
There are a few things to keep in mind when you go to a korean spa to get the most out of your experience and to be prepared for everything. First of all, you should know that in the bathing areas of most korean spas, you and everyone else there will be naked. In most facilities, swimsuits aren’t allowed, so if you can’t let go of modesty, a korean spa day may not be for you. If being seen by someone of another sex concerns you, know that the nude areas are almost always gender-segregated.

Secondly, make sure you shower between every phase of your spa day! This is how places like this stay reasonably clean; they expect you to shower before and after every time you use the baths, so make sure you do, or you might catch some dirty looks.

Finally, do be sure to plan for a long time there, and don’t have anything else to do that day if at all possible. With so many ways to relax so completely and thoroughly, you won’t want to leave anytime soon, so plan ahead to get the most out of it; feeling rushed isn’t going to help you relax.
